The Real Reason Your Skin Starts to Sag (and What to Do About It)

Aging Doesn’t Have to Slow You Down

Getting older doesn’t mean you have to look it. At CAVE X, our skin clinicians and cosmetic nurses use proven treatments to keep your skin firm, healthy, and strong—so you can look sharp and feel confident at any age.

    Why Skin Loses Its Firmness

As the years go by, the skin naturally starts to lose elasticity. Here’s what’s happening under the surface:

    • Collagen Breakdown – Collagen gives your skin structure and strength. From your mid-20s, your body produces about 1% less collagen each year. That adds up fast if nothing is done.
    • Elastin Damage – Elastin gives skin its ability to bounce back. Once it’s damaged, your body produces very little new elastin, meaning less firmness over time.
    • Reduced Hyaluronic Acid – This natural hydrator keeps your skin full and smooth. Lower levels = dryness and sagging.
    • Slower Cell Turnover – Skin renews itself more slowly, becoming thinner and less resilient.
    • External Stressors – UV exposure, smoking, poor nutrition, stress, lack of sleep, and pollution all accelerate the breakdown of collagen and elastin.

The result? Sagging, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and a tired appearance.

What You Can Do About It

    Some factors you can control:

    • Eat high-quality protein and nutrient-rich foods.
    • Stay hydrated.
    • Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure.
    • Get solid, consistent sleep.
    • Manage stress.

But when lifestyle alone isn’t enough, advanced skin treatments can help rebuild strength and bring back definition.

    Struggling with Excessive Oily Skin?

Do you suffer from acne and frequent breakouts because of excessive oil production within the skin?
When the sebaceous glands become overactive, they produce oil, called sebum, more than normal, causing build up and blockage within the pores of the skin, resulting in acne and breakouts, redness, and irritation.
But what causes the sebaceous glands to become overactive making them produce excessive oil, and how can we treat it?
Let's first address what may be causing excess oil production within the skin:
There are 3 categories that triggers can fall under, Internal factors and External factors.
Let's focus on the Internal factors:
    1. Higher Levels of Testosterone
      - Unfortunately, if your body is producing more testosterone than the average joe, it will also produce more oil than necessary
      - Same goes if you're taking steroid supplements for all you body builders out there
    2. Dehydrated skin
      - If you become sunburnt, this causes dehydrated skin
      - If you're not eating good fatty foods, this causes dehydrated skin
      - To compensate for the lack of moisture, your sebaceous glands will produce more oil than necessary
    3. High glycemic foods
      - Do you love sugary snacks such as donuts, chocolate, white bread, fried chicken? Unfortunately processed refined carbohydrates cause excessive oil production.
    4. Dairy products
      - Products such as cheese, skim or low fat milk, whey protein supplements, and ice-cream have all been linked to producing more oil.
Now let's focus on the External factors:
    1. Harsh cleaning chemicals such as soaps and shampoos or body washes
    2. You're not regularly cleansing your face and definitely not exfoliating.
So what remedies can we use to reduce oil production?
The first best thing you can do is look at your diet.
    • Are you consuming more sugary foods than proteins and good fats? Are you going for deep-fried foods drenched in canola oil or packaged snacks that are highly processed and saturated in vegetable oils? Are you using more supplements than raw rich foods such as meats and vegetables and greek yoghurt?
    • If you love your dairy products, it may be best to stick to full fat milk and yoghurts. You also have the almond, oat and coconut varieties of milks.
    • Drink more water daily.
    • Increase your Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in salmon, flaxseeds, walnuts. it's found to reduce inflammation and oil.
If you currently have a skin care routine:
    • Use a gentle, oil-control cleanser, an oil-free moisturiser and exfoliate 2-3 times per week. And when going out in the sun, use an oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen.
If symptoms persist, you may need to receive professional treatments:
    • Laser Treatments - Reduce oil gland activity and shrink pores.
    • Chemical Peels (Salicylic Acid, TCA, or Jessner's Peel) - Deeply exfoliate, control oil, and unclog pores.
    • Microneedling with Radiofrequency - Tightens pores and balances oil production over time.

    The Power of A, C, E + B5

When we think of vitamins and minerals, we mostly think of gut health, muscle and nerve function as well as our overall immunity. But we forget that the skin is the largest organ of the body and how much of what we consume actually affects it! Consuming, as well as applying elements topically, supports the skin from all angles.

All vitamins and minerals are beneficial in some way and each can support and/or stimulate others into working efficiently and effectively. But today, we’re gonna talk a little about four vitamins that we can consume and apply topically.

We have the ultimate vitamin team effort to rejuvenate your skin!

We offer a Vitamin Mask with these four essential vitamins (A, C, E & B5) that will restore the skin back to life.

Vit. A – The only molecule that can actually assist in reprogramming cells, resulting in healthier looking and more radiant skin. It normalises the oil balance within your skin and speeds up healing, prevents breakouts and supports the skin’s immune system.

Vit. C – Because of its antioxidant properties, vitamin C aids in your skin’s natural regeneration process, which helps your body repair damaged skin cells. Applied topically, the skin is triggered to heal itself by accelerating the production of collagen and elastin!

Vit. E – High in antioxidants and it affects blood circulation which helps firmness and structure of skin cells, helping to prevent wrinkles! It also helps reduce the prominence of acne scars.

Vit. B5 – Helps to promote faster healing of skin wounds and is most effective when combined with vitamin C. Additionally, it can help to minimise acne by helping the body to break down oils in the form of triglycerides and cholesterol.

We usually apply an algae mask over the top of the vitamin mask to allow the vitamins to be absorbed more efficiently and reduce inflammation and redness with the spirulina platensis extract.
